Motherhood. We live in a day and age where everyone and their mother (literally) tells us what motherhood should look like. Don’t get me wrong being surrounded by an incredible group of women that speak into my motherhood is the best. Ash and I pray that this blog can be community of moms that support and love each other. Although what I think those that have gone before us and our husbands may not understand is the amount of pressure from the world that we can allow ourselves to live under in motherhood. What is so great about getting to be a mother is that we get to choose. So choose you.
We get to choose to be a working mom pursuing a career with a God given purpose while raising children. We get to choose to stay at home with our children and raise our children. We get to choose to work part time, work from home, not work at all. Today I am begging you to choose to stop living under this pressure the world puts on our motherhood. We share silly videos about being or not being the Pinterest mom. About running out the door as soon as daddy walks in as a stay at home mom. Funny posts about how SAHM moms stay in their pj’s on the couch all day. CHOOSE YOU. If you have been given purpose for a career and know that is where you should be during the day. Then you be the best at that job you can be! Your kids are going to grow up and admire your ability to be a phenomenal mother and have a career. Don’t apologize to people for being a working mom, working from home, or staying in your PJ’s all day. Don’t apologize for having a gifting of crafting everything from scratch for your children. Don’t apologize to the world for pursuing your purpose. The weight of the world can steal the joy of this amazing gift of motherhood from us. It’s not fair and it needs to stop. It’s time we start choosing us.
I know that I was given a purpose of motherhood. Some day’s I feel like being a mom is my jam. Others well we all have those days to. Truth be told motherhood is not my only purpose on this earth and I refuse to let my children be the center of my life or my purpose. Not only can this be taboo in the world we live in but this can be taboo among Christian women. Wait, what?! You’re a stay at home mom and your not revolving your life around your children? No, I have a desire to help women feel great in their skin. I work 40 hours a week virtually helping women dress themselves and feel amazing whether they are at home or at the office. God has given me a burning passion for the orphans in America, the Foster Kids. I spend time in relationships with other foster moms and the foster community. My husband is in Full Time Ministry and our family is called to serve the church.
Not only is the world telling us to create this perfect home for our children to feel comfortable, to keep them on these rigid routines in order to help them strive. The world is telling us to put them at the center of our lives and revolve everything else around them. Where is this in the word of God? I have toddlers that have very minimal independent abilities so I get this more than anyone. I am still doing a lot of things for them and Lord knows they do strive on routine. Although there are times where Chase and I decide to get off this routine in order to teach our children we are really living this thing. It’s not always easy. We are reading a book by Francis and Lisa Chan and he said “If they don’t see the sacrifices made, they will later question whether or not we believe what we say we believe.” I know that I am the one that is going to answer for the discipleship of my children when it comes that time, not the world. So I choose God’s purpose, not the world’s.
